Mrs. Thun Saroeun, 51, is a mother of six children and lives in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. She makes rice noodles and sells them to the people in her community. Rice noodle we call in Cambodia language “Nom Banchok”. It is one of the favorite foods among Cambodian people. Rice noodles it serve with many kinds of vegetables such as: mints, banana blossoms, string beans, English cucumber, mung bean sprouts and others vegetables. Moreover, it serves with soup and the soup there are two types, Green and red soup. Green soup is cook with bone less fish only and named in Cambodia language “Nom Banchok Samlah Khmer”. The other soup cooks with pork or chicken and named “Nom Banchok Namya”. So far, her husband still works as a farmer growing rice crops and various kinds of vegetables.

On Nov 2007, Thun Saroeun took out a loan of $1000 aimed to purchase a car for one of her son to operate a taxi to get a long sustainable financial, but she changed her mind when she received the money. Instead, she decided to purchase a trailer and a motorbike for him to operate a mototaxi. The car’s cost is too expensive for her to afford and then it just a second hand car. With a new motorbike and a trailer, her son can earn around $4 of profit a day. She was very pleased with the results of her investment and can see her son’s business growing forward. Currently, she suspend selling rice noodle as she just got an accident. Now she stays at home looking after herself till the recover from her injury. She has no problems paying a loan back to Credit MFI. In the future, she not sure whether she needs another loan or not, but if she wants to reinvest on her business she will take out another loan.

Again, she states that the loan is very useful as it is provide a chance to all poor entrepreneurs to start and sustain their businesses. Finally, she would like to say thanks to all lenders for interest helping Cambodian entrepreneurs like her family.
