Mrs. Thaong Oin, age 60, works with her husband on their plot of farmland, earning only a meager $1.50 per day from the sales of their crops. She is pictured in her home. They have three children who are married and live separately. She would like to request a loan of $500 in order to purchase a water pump to bring water from their well to irrigate their vegetables. Currently, they pull the water up in a bucket by hand and water the crops manually. A water pump would greatly increase their efficiency as well as allow them to grow a greater quantity of crops to sell, leading to an increase in income.

Journal Update.

Entrepreneur: Thaong Oin
Location: Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia

Thaong Oin, age 60, works with her husband on their plot of farmland. She has asked a loan of $500 to purchase a water pump in stead of pull the water up from the well by using a bucket.

She first heard about Credit’s low interest from a loan officer who visited her village. She decided to ask for a loan because the interest rate of 2.5% per month is not very high and CREDIT provides a long loan term that she can afford. With the loan of $500 she received she began to purchase a water pump to water her crops. She told a loan officer that so far, her profit stills the same as before, anyway, she still happy because a water pump make her easy than before. She has been very pleased with her decision and is grateful for the ability to better support her family. So far, the farm is doing well and she has no problems paying a loan back to Credit MFI.

Again, she states that the loan is very useful as it is provide a chance to all poor entrepreneurs to start and sustain their businesses. Finally, she would like to say thanks to all lenders for interest helping Cambodian entrepreneurs like her family.
