Sra. Aparicia started her business carrying regional products (herbs, fruits, wheat flour, beans, peas) from the Sierra region of northern Peru to Lima for sale there. Her business was going well until her oldest daughter died, the pain of which lead her to stop working for a while. Once she overcame that terrible tragedy, she opened a shop in the "ovalo" (presumably, an oval-shaped market) in her local region of Ancash in Peru. The store attracted many shoppers and is now the largest shop in the area. Sra. Aparicia is a member of the Manuela Ramos de Tinco community bank and the loans that she's received from the bank have hugely helped her to grow her business.

With a recently-granted loan from Manuela Ramos of S/.1,000 (1,000 Peruvian soles or about US$332), to be repaid in 4 installments, she will buy bulk supplies of 1.5-litre soft drinks, pasta, cookies, snacks, chocolates and milk.

Sra. Aparicia, 57, is married and has 4 children. Her husband raises peaches and both work hard for the good of their family.
