Ssembajwe David is the father of two girls, aged 1 and 4 years. He has been selling new blankets, sheets, and suitcases for 4 years now. David’s business is located in one of the city suburbs of Kampala (Kalerwe), a few kilometers from the capital city. This trading center serves a large population, with hundreds of people going to shop there daily.

Unfortunately, David no longer has sufficient stock to meet the demand. Wholesale prices have risen, and he can buy less inventory than he could a few years ago with the same amount of capital. He has realized that he needs to increase his stock if he is to make enough profit to provide bread and basics for the family. He is requesting a loan of $600 to increase his inventory and make it more appealing. The loan will be paid back in a period of six months.

David is a trader who sells commodities like bags, blankets, bed sheets, clothes, mattresses and many more to the public. His business is located at kalerwe off Gayaza road –north of Kampala. David fourth in the line of birth was born in a family of nine children of which five are boys.

He is married with two children (girls).

He says, with kiva loan he managed to stock more items like mattresses which were of high demand by his clients and many other goods. The stock has also doubled compared to the old stock he used to own (the mattresses/others are put outside his store for clear view and limited space inside).

He plans to open up another store for his wife in the near by trading centre to sell the same goods and this will be a new job opportunity created for his wife as one of the benefits of kiva loans.

The picture attached shows David standing by the side of his business with a small radio

Share An Opportunity Microfinance and David Ssembajwe would like to thank Kiva .org and individual Kiva lenders who made this loan possible.
