Agnes owns the Agnes Beauty Salon in the village of Makindye on the outskirts of Kampala. She is married with 5 children and she cares for 2 orphans. She has owned her business for 10 years and has been a part of her lending group for 2 years.

Agnes Update, Uganda Entrepreneur: Agnes Nalwanga Location: Makindye, Uganda When I visited Agnes this morning she was in high spirits. Her salon, which is still open 7 days a week is doing very well. She bought new rollers and new chemicals with her latest loan and the increased profits she is making from serving more customers have been put to great use. She has opened a shop which sells salon related products such as weaves, braids, rollers etc. She is now able to treat 5-6 clients every day, charging them US$1.50 each for treatment. She has been borrowing from PEARL for 16 months now (in her 4th loan cycle) and with her next loan she intends to buy a bigger hairdryer. She currently makes around US$10 profit a day which she uses to fund her 5 children's education.
