Mohammed Daud was very young when his family migrated to Pakistan. He completed his grade school in Peshawar, and most of the time worked as an unskilled daily wager.

Daud’s family returned to Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban government. He brought along little money with him but got into a partnership with his cousin who invested $5,000 in this auto spare parts store. The partners’ business was going well initially but two years ago the market slowed down significantly making the partners to get break away. Daud was more interested in keeping this shop so he had to pay the other partner off. Kiva’s 1,000 dollars is one of so many micro-finance and personal loans that he has taken out in order to pay his cousin off. Daud owns the shop but he still has to pay more than 5,000 dollars. To Daud this does not mean a crisis. He is sure that his business will run and improve in the long run and that he will soon be able to pay off all the debts from the daily incomes from his store and have the large store to himself. Like his last two group loan cycles, the borrower been not been short in paying back his loan repayments so far and is quite confidence that will complete the loan successfully.

The entrepreneur believes that things look quite messy at the moment but in the long run he will have this $10,000 worth store for himself.
