Journal Update.

Entrepreneur: Thek Kim Liv
Location: Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia

Mrs. Thek Kim Liv, aged 50, works with her husband running a battery charging business. She charges batteries such as vehicle batteries and earns about $7.30 per day. They have three children, one who is a goldsmith and one is married and live separately with their own families and the last child is a student.

Thek Kim Liv first heard about Credit’s low interest from a loan officer who visited her village. She decided to ask for a loan because the interest rate of 2.5% per month is not very high and CREDIT provides a long loan term that she can afford. She took out a loan of US$1200 to purchase a motorbike and the trailer to transport the batteries. She said currently the charging business is going forward. She has been pleased with the results of her investments and can see her business growing. She said that the average of the income that she earns currently is increased than the past day. She has been saved the money and mostly she spends on child’s education. Everyday she gives US$1 for child to go to school. There is a big concern that she worry lately is inflation. The inflation has increased the goods and gas prices. She said she uses more money to purchase the same quantity of gas to refill the tank. She has no problems paying a loan back to Credit MFI.

Again, she states that the loan is very useful as it is provide a chance to all poor entrepreneurs to start and sustain their businesses. Finally, she would like to say thanks to all lenders for interest helping Cambodian entrepreneurs like her family.

CREDIT MFI is an independent Cambodian faith-based organization. It aims to empower the economically active poor and small entrepreneurs by providing inclusive financial services.
