Senitima Toa is a widowed lady and one of the oldest members of Samatau 4 Center. She has two children that work, and Senitima herself has joined the SPBD loan program and is the owner of a small business: she has been running a canteen for the past three years. During weekdays, Senitima sells food to school children. On hollidays and weekends, she weaves small Samoan fans. These fans can be sold for 5-10 tala (US$2-4) each, depending on the size and the materials used. If she can sell twenty fans a week, Senitima earns US$40, plus US$160 from the canteen. She will use the current loan of US$700 to purchase inventory for her canteen, so that she is able to pay for her children’s school fees and her family’s home improvement.
