Sera is a hard-working woman that tends to her taro plantation every day of the week. She is able to sell two full sacks of taro at the Fugalei market every Saturday. She does not mind the half-hour trip from Saanapu into town because she knows there is always a high demand for her products. Her business earns her a profit of $130 weekly after all expenses, which keeps her family going through hard times. It also gives her a chance to receive further loans from SPBD, which allows her to keep her business going strong.

The loan officer who is in charge of her center says Sera is a very good member. She repays her loan on time, always attends her weekly meetings, and is enthusiastic about expanding her business.

She has used her previous loan to purchase chemicals and equipments needed for her business. She says her business is doing well. On good days she makes 400 Tala a day (1Tala=0.4USD) and on bad days she makes 200 Tala a day. She also says that the Kiva loans and SPBD loans are not only helping her business grow, but also helping her pay her children’s school fees, feed her family better, and improve her housing.

When asked if she has any words to the Kiva lenders, she said “she still active and honest.”
