Ni Wayan Ratih and her husband live in a simple semi permanent home in Berawantangi village. Her 3 children are married, and live separately from Wayan Ratih. Although elderly, Wayan Ratih has a forward spirit, and is persistent in her pig farming business. With a capital of Rp500,000 (about US$55) Wayan Ratih bought 2 piglets for fattening. Every day she fed those piglets 2X, at a cost of Rp12,000 (about $1.40). She raised them for 4 months
and sold them both for Rp1,800,000 (about US$200). After expenses her profit was Rp550,000 (about $62) in 4 months time. From this profit Wayan Ratih could fulfill her household needs, since field income from her husband's tenant farming is not much. Loan from Dinari for Rp1,300,000 (about $150) will be used to buy another fattening piglet for Rp250,000 (about $28), the rest to buy animal feed for upcoming 4 months, with the hope that profit would increase so that Wayan Ratih could renovate her home little by little.
