Two years ago, Majida heard about our Institution from word of mouth and applied for a loan to purchase more inventory. This is the 3rd time Majida is requesting a loan from Al Majmoua. This time, again, she needs a loan of US$ 600 to buy home products. Her dream is to open a small shop of her own in an area near her home to have better visibility for her business.
Majida is part of a group loan with other women from the same neighborhood. A group is usually constituted of self-chosen women, living in vulnerable conditions. The group lending is based on incremental increase of loan amount and group solidarity to guarantee repayment. The strength of the group loan is that it encourages the collaboration approach in the borrowing community; it is a very powerful tool towards economic empowerment of women.
