I met with Petrona at her groups’ bi-weekly meeting. She is a member of the group called Merced 2. She is 30 years old, married and has 3 children; the youngest was born 5 months ago. With her loans she has been able to buy materials for her craftworks, mainly thread and textiles. She buys everything in San Cristobal (the closest city to her community) and then works at her house, weaving and embroidering beautiful table clothes, pillow cases and napkins. Every 15 days she goes back to San Cristobal to sell her items. She has been Alsol’s client (Kiva’s local partner) for many years and her loan amount of $8000 pesos reflects her good credit history. She has been punctual with her payments and once she finishes repaying her current loan she is hoping to get an additional one for a higher amount, so that she can continue growing her business. She is thankful with Alsol and with all Kiva lenders for allowing her the access to this money which enables her to give continuity to her craftwork business.
