Alex is 34 years old and supports a family of four children. All the children are of school-going age. The eldest -also the only girl- is in Grade 7. All the rest are boys and two of them are enrolled in Grade 5 while the youngest is in Grade 3.

Alex rents a small room in the city suburbs of Kampala where he stays with one of the boys. The rest of the children stay in the village with their mother because the cost of living in Kampala is too high for the family. Alex is employed in the transport business and rides a motorcycle ferrying passengers to different destinations. This has been his source of livelihood for the past few years.

Alex now wants to acquire a motorcycle of his own, which will help him increase his daily income, meet the children's school fees requirements and provide for their other basic living expenses. He is requesting a $1,200 loan to purchase a new motorcycle. He will be able to repay the loan in a period of 7months

Alex Dude The Transporter Entrepreneur: Alex Dude Location: Wandegeya, Uganda Dude Alex is a motorcycle rider engaged in transport business. Alex has a family and at the time of my visit, I met both Alex and his wife whom we had a chat about the impact of Kiva loan. He borrowed $1200 purposely for purchase of a new motor cycle for transport business. Yes, he managed to acquire a new motorcycle. This has led to a number of things to change like; - increase of income; Alex can afford essential basics to his family, paying school fees to his children and maintenance of his motorcycle. He says, he has a dream of seeing his business grow – owning three motorcycles and setting up motorcycle spare store in the long run and taking his children to good schools. Alex sends sincere greetings/appreciation to individual kiva lenders who were interested in his business and courageously funded towards it. The picture attached shows Alex and his motorcycle.
