Koburungi Beatrice is a 50 year old single mother of four. Beatrice and her husband separated sometime back and she takes care of their four children. The eldest daughter is aged 21 years and currently enrolled at the local university on private sponsorship. The others are aged 19, 15, and 13 and enrolled in senior six (S.6), senior two (S.2) and senior one (S.1) respectively.

Though the father of the children is paying for their tuition fees, Beatrice is still responsible for meeting all their other requirements like school materials, food and medical treatment.

Beatrice has been running a stationery and printing business for over 3 years now to supprt her family. However after the separation, she was left with no choice but to use some of her business' money to purchase a house where she was going to stay with the children. This automatically affected the bulk of her stationery stock making it increasingly difficult for her to meet all her customers’ demands.

Beatrice is therefore requesting a loan of $1,200 from Kiva and $1,777 from Share An Opportunity Microfinance, making a total of $2,977 (five million Uganda shillings 5,000,000) payable in 10 months. This will enable her to comfortably meet all the stationery demands of her customers, especially those whom she was already supplying in bulk. In addition Beatrice will be able to save some money and make future investments for her children.
