Elencith makes starch from cassava by using a small electric grater. She sells starch to snack food producers in her neighborhood, in the city of San José de Sisa, in the department of San Martín, Perú.

She began 4 years ago with her own capital of S/. 50.00, which she was able to increase little by little with the help of the Movimiento Manuela Ramos, through its “Corazón de Jesús” Communal Bank. She began with loans of S/.300 (approx. $94). She is now requesting a loan of S/.2,000 ($625) to buy more modern equipment for grating, sifting, and drying the cassava, and also for some ingredients. With the new equipment she is hoping to improve the quality of her product and increase her production.

Elencith is 26 years old and works every day along with her husband. She has two young children, 2 and 8 years old. The older child studies in a primary school in the afternoons. Elencith’s goal is to grow her business and provide good service in the neighborhood.

Update

Entrepreneur: Elencith Reategui
Location: San José De Sisa - San Martin, Peru

With the loan of $625 Elencith invested in new machinery to grate and sift the yucca she buys to make starch to sell to local vendors. She now has the ability to produce more starch more quickly. She has no problem selling the starch and is excited to have the opportunity to earn more money for her family. Personally Elencith feels much happier and says that her relationships with friends and family have improved. On the business front she couldn’t think of a reason why sales would slow down. Elencith is happy her children will have the opportunity to study and become professionals.
