Decina’s kiosk is one of the most popular businesses in the market. She sells ‘abarrotes’, also known as packings or cooking supplies. Store owners, restaurant owners, women, men, and children all purchase goods from Decina’s business. Daily clients visit her stand with a smile knowing that Decina sells products of good quality and fair prices. Seven days a week from 7am to 9pm surrounded by bags of split peas, dried corn, flour, eggs, rice, pastas, beans, seasonings, and more, Decina rarely has a break. These are the staple goods of every Peruvian home. Though, Decina says that the most common purchases are rice, noodles, and sugar.

Decina says that her stand has been busy every day for the past seven years that she has owned it. Many women ask for unique products, but with no extra help, she has not been able to fulfill their needs. She is not married and her two children are in school. Decina is asking for a next loan of $500 to maintain her bustling business and keep her clients satisfied.

Decina belongs to a village bank called “Agua Viva”, which means Live Water, where she has friends like her, with a business and who need a loan. For example her friends Patty Reymundez and Felomina Micuylla are also in her village bank and the three women together are expecting a total loan of US$ 1,100.
