“I sell animal skins and fodder as well as trading livestock. I am lucky enough to have a piece of land that I can use to keep my animals and would like $246 to purchase additional fodder to sell in the local market. My husband is only seasonally employed as we live in a small town where there isn’t much work to go around. I have five children, three of which are in government school. I make about $3 to $5 per day. Your loan will help me increase my family’s income.”

Dear Lenders,

I apologize for the delay in updating you on the progress of my family business. With the loan that you provided me, I purchased animal fodder to sell in the market. Although my husband used to be a seasonally employed laborer, he has developed a serious lung condition that prevents him from working. Now I am the only breadwinner for our family.

My business is not going well because competition is intense, with only a limited number of jobs in our small town. Since I took out this 15,000 PKRs (US $210) loan, I have made a total profit of 20,000 PKRs (US $280) from selling animal fodder. Although I have been able to repay my loan on time, I have not had much earnings left to pay for daily necessities for our family. With food costs rising drastically, I am having a lot of difficulty feeding my five children.

After I finish repaying this loan, I do not plan to take another loan with Asasah (microfinance institution in Pakistan) in the near future because my animal fodder business has not been successful. My daughter is now a teacher, so she will help support our family along with my business.

I am grateful to each of you for your loan. I hope that you will continue to support my fellow Asasah associates on Kiva.

Thank you!
