Tres Marías communal bank is located about 15 minutes south of the city of Cuenca in the community of the same name. This town boasts natural beauty and biodiversity because of its location. The adult population works in farming and the raising of livestock, while the young citizens work in the city or have moved abroad to earn better lives for their families.

Mrs. María León is a member of Tres Marías communal bank, and lives in the community of the same name. She lives with her husband and her 88-year-old mother. María is 50 years old and has no children, as she married at a mature age (46). She has a good relationship with her husband who works as a mason. They do not have their own house, since they live in the home of María's mother, but María takes care of the house due to her mother's advanced age and high blood pressure.

María takes care of the household chores and also raises chickens and guinea pigs. She tells us everything is going very well, as she can sell all the chickens in the community, and the guinea pigs provide food for the family, or can be sold if necessary.

She has been receiving loans from the foundation for two years and with the funds she has built up a stock of chickens and also begun saving money. With the new loan from FUNDACION ESPOIR, María will invest in food and vitamins for her chickens and guinea pigs, and some money will be used for household needs.

María's biggest dream is that her mother will recover from her illness.
