Tres Marías communal bank is located about 15 minutes outside the city of Cuenca, in the community of the same name south of the city. This town boasts natural beauty and biodiversity, due to its location. The adult population work in agriculture and the raising of livestock, while the young citizens work in the city or have moved abroad to earn a better life for their families.

Mrs. Mariana Lata is an active member of Tres Marías communal bank. She lives near the highway about 15 minutes outside Cuenca. She is 44 years-old and a single mother of a 7 year-old daughter. She does not have her own house, she lives with parents.

Mariana has worked in her grocery store for ten years, but also works raising animals such as chickens, guinea pigs, and pigs. She feeds them and then sells them in the markets when they are large enough.

She has been working with the communal bank for two years and is happy with the loans she has received and invested in her business. With the new loans from FUNDACION ESPOIR, Mariana will buy other brands of personal hygiene products, basic items such as rice, sugar, oil, pasta, etc, in order to better supply her business and provide better service to her customers. She will also buy more chickens that will grow rapidly, in under a month and a half.

Her dreams are to succeed in making her store into a small market and to build a house.
