The United Brothers Group

Francis K. Koroma, Steven Mattia and Daddy Sapha call themselves The United Brothers Group. They are three enterprising men from Sierra Leone who are joining together to seek their second loan through SMT (a partner of Shine On Sierra Leone, Waterloo). They are requesting a loan of 3 million LE with the help of Kiva lenders.

Francis is the group’s leader, and he is 28 years old with a wife and two children in primary school. For nine years, Francis has worked selling spare auto parts and supplies such as engine oil, spark plugs, and brake fluid. In his time in business, he has found that certain goods (such as brake fluid) sell faster than others, and he plans to use his portion of the loan to purchase an additional stock of these “fast-moving” goods, with the hope of increasing the revenue brought in by his store.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
