With a loan from his father eight years ago, Mario, 28, opened a general food market in the Fortin district of Guayaquil. His store is located on Fortin's main street, which provides a steady flow of customers. Mario works everyday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. selling rice, chicken, eggs, cola and other food items to people who work in the area. He has been marginalized from the traditional financial system due to the fact that he is single.

Mario requests a loan to buy more products for his store, including oil, chicken and especially rice, a staple in Ecuador. This will help him scale up his business and serve more customers.
