Martha is a young woman of 34 with three children: Kevin, age 13; Nicole, age 10; and Milena, age 6. She currently lives alone with them, since her husband Roberto is working in another city in the field of agriculture.

Two years ago, due to the circumstances of her life, Martha began selling charcoal in a market near her home. At first, the work was intermittent; she substituted for a woman who would leave the shop in her care. Over time, it became her permanent job, allowing her to help her husband with the household costs and other personal expenses.

Martha enjoys running her shop, because she has no competition and it is profitable. In her own words, "if she hadn't left it, I still would have continued, because it brought me plenty of income."

Martha is able to run her business at the market and return home in the evening to see her daughters. She does not get tired, because she is an extremely hardworking woman with a strong desire to get ahead. She hopes someday to expand her business and sell charcoal wholesale in a large facility; thanks to her entrepreneurial spirit, she can already picture this in her mind.

This is Martha's fourth loan with MFP, and she is completely confident that she will repay it punctually, because she knows that she will have other loans in the future that will permit her to enhance her business. With the funds she is requesting, she will improve the infrastructure of the shop she currently operates, since it has deteriorated somewhat. She will begin by repairing the floor, so that her charcoal shop will project a better image to customers.
