Las Colmenas #1, 2, 3 Group

Hilcia is the group coordinator of Banco de Esperanza (Bank of Hope) Las Colmenas. Her story is representative of the others in her group and more generally of Esperanza's Dominican and Haitian clients. Hilcia is a single mother of two who lives in the Samana province of the Dominican Republic. She lives in a rented house that has unreliable access to running water (not potable) and electricity.

This will be Hilcia's first loan with Esperanza. She plans to use it to start a retail business selling clothing. She will purchase pants, blouses and skirts to sell out of her home to the others in her community.

Hilcia wants to use the profits from her business to help improve the living conditions for her family. She will be able to buy clothes, shoes, and books for her children so they can attend school. She hopes to be able to save enough money to purchase a computer and someday to purchase her own house. She thanks you for your support!



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
