Nyetaa Group

The Nyetaa Group consists of four women, all of whom are married and living in monogamous relationships. They have an average age of 29 and an average of three children each. They live in the Djaka (Kirango) neighborhood in Markala (in the fourth administrative region of Mali).

The women met through family ties, marriage and friendships, and they are all members of the same traditional association, "Traoré Ton", from which they have taken the name of their current association. They all have the same business activity: buying and selling fish in various forms (fried, dried, smoked, fresh etc.). The Nyetaa Group is on its fifth group loan, having paid back the four previous loans with no problems.

This new loan will allow them to purchase 40 baskets of fresh fish and 12 blocks of ice. They stock up on fresh fish locally, on the banks of the Niger River. A good portion of this fish is dried, either on stones, straw or "seccos". The rest is sold in different ways: the fresh fish is sold locally in Kirango and Diamarabougou Markala; the fresh fish conserved on ice is sold in Ségou (at the castle market) and Bamako; the dried fish, some of which is kept until the waters recede when it is worth more, is mostly sold in Dougabougou, Siribala, Niono, Shango, Boussin and at the weekly fair in Ségou; the smoked fish is mainly sold in Ségou. The sales are generally transacted in cash to a clientele made up of both men and women, and are carried out locally beside the river, in the Kirango or Diamarabougou (Markala) markets or door-to-door in village.

The women expect to make an average monthly profit of 52,800 FCFA, which will allow them to take care of some small family needs and to participate in social events.

Their ambition is to save enough money to buy their children a plot of land on which to raise animals.

Les membres du Nyetaa sont au nombre de quatre femmes, toutes mariées dans des foyers monogames, ayant en moyenne 29 ans, 3 enfants, elles habitent le quartier Djaka (Kirango) de Markala (4ème Région administrative du Mali).
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de parenté, de mariage, d’amitié et sont membres d’une même association traditionnelle « Traoré Ton » qui donna son nom à leur actuelle association. Elles font presque toutes la même activité à savoir l’achat et la vente du poisson sous diverses formes (frit, séché, fumé, frais etc.)
Le groupe Nyetaa est à son 5ème prêt de groupe, après avoir bien remboursé les quatre précédents prêts sans aucune difficulté.
Ce nouveau prêt servira à utiliser, 40 paniers de poisson frais, 12 barres de glace. Elles s’approvisionnent en poissons frais sur place au bord du fleuve Niger. Une bonne partie de ce poisson est séchée soit sur du gravier soit sur de la paille ou sur des « seccos ».Le reste du poisson se vend sous toutes les formes : les poisson frais se vendent sur place à Kirango et à Diamarabougou Markala, le frais conservé dans de la glace se vend à Ségou ( au marché château) et Bamako, le poisson séché dont une partie est conservée jusqu’à la décrue où elles gagnent plus d’argent est surtout vendu à Dougabougou, Siribala, Niono, Shango, Boussin et à la foire hebdomadaire de Ségou, le fumé est essentiellement vendu à Ségou. Les ventes se font généralement au comptant à une clientèle composée de femmes et d’hommes, sur place au bord du fleuve, aux marchés de Kirango et de Diamarabougou (Markala) ou en ambulant à travers les quartiers du village.
Elles comptent réaliser un bénéfice moyen mensuel de 52.800 FCFA qui servira à satisfaire les petits besoins familiaux et à participer aux évènements sociaux.
Leur ambition est d’avoir une concession à travers l’épargne en animaux pour les enfants.
