Josephine Ruel

Josephine Ruel has been a member of ASHI since 2007. The loans she has accessed since then were the main source of capital for starting and sustaining a business. The proceeds of her hog fattening (pig raising) and her buying and selling of 'nipa' (palm leaf) shingles are her family’s main source of income. Her husband’s income being a farmer is still very small and sporadic and is used to supplement the basic needs of their three children, aged from six to 16 years old. All are studying and Josephine wishes them to continue their studies until graduating from college.

For now, Josephine is patiently waiting for her businesses to grow. She tries her best to maximize the profit she makes out of her businesses though it is still small. With loans she receives through ASHI, she believes that eventually her business will be successful and she will be able to bring her family out of poverty and that they will be able to have better living conditions.
