Lorena Cabrera

A sad part of the life of the family of Lorena Cabrera is that their head of the family has to work faraway so as to provide for them. Lorena's husband Junarlim Cabrera, 35 years old (one year older than her), works as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) on the other side of the world. To provide for the needs of their children, now 10 and 5 years old, Junarlim decided to work overseas because people think that there are a lot of work opportunities there. Aside from the salary of her husband, one source of their income is Loren's sewing business. She decided to run this kind of business because she knows how to sew various clothes and also, she wants to help her husband in earning income for their family.

She joined Kiva field partner Ahon sa Hirap Inc. (ASHI) in 2003 and every loan that she received has been used in improving every business that she has. Now, her 9th loan will be used in improving her sewing business; she will buy necessary things for her business such as cloth, another sewing machine, thread, needles and many more, plus transportation fares. She is hoping that after buying all of these, her business will be more productive.

The dream of Lorena for their children is to have them finish their studies until college, so that the sacrifice of their father in working abroad will not be wasted and so that they will have a better life in the future. Lorena's dream for their family is also to make their house a bigger and stronger one. Her dream for her business is to continue to grow and in time they can buy their own van that can be used in delivering finished products.
