Starting Up

Entrepreneur: Trinidad Severino
Location: Yamasa, Dominican Republic

Trinidad is on her way to solidifying her stock and beginning sales in earnest. The bulk of her initial loan funded the restoration of an old storefront connected to her parents’ home. Years ago, her father sold and serviced engine parts from this addition to the family home. Trinidad has planned to use this space for her cafeteria.

To that end, she cleaned and refurbished the storefront, revamped the shelving and storage space, and invested in seating and furniture for customers. Her inventory is still limited to a few fruits and vegetables, but the location of her home, and accordingly her store, gives her a wonderful advantage: her front patio is already a neighborhood social center. As time goes on, Trinidad hopes her initial investments will be complemented by growth in her inventory and, ultimately, greater sales.
