Tarangire Group

Majaliwa Mohamed is 32 years old, married and has one child. His daughter Ashura is five years old. Majaliwa owns a video and music store in the Tabata region of Dar es Salaam where he sells DVD's, CD's, and TV's. Majaliwa started this business two years ago, and it is open daily from 10 am to 10:30 pm. Majaliwa is able to earn a monthly profit of about $40.

This will be Majaliwa's 6th loan from Tujijenge. All of his previous loans were repaid successfully. With those loans, he increased the stock of his store. The extra profits that Majaliwa earned as a result of his previous loans enabled him to buy land. He hopes to use this loan to again increase the stock in his store. Until now, he has sold mostly used DVD's and CD's. He would like to purchase new DVD's and CD's that he can sell at a higher price.

Majaliwa will share this loan with the 7 other members of his sub-group, which is part of a larger loan group called Tarangire. In the photo, Majaliwa is standing second from the right, in the back row.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
