Scarlatas 1 & 2 Group

Sonia is the coordinator of her group which is called Scarlatas. Her story is representative of both her group members and Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients in general. Her group is based in Los Alcarrizos, a dusty industrial town located north of Santo Domingo, where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable at best. Here she makes her home in a simple structure of concrete and tin as a single mother of three grown children who are dependent on her income.

Sonia is excited to take this first loan with Esperanza with the goal of improving her herbal medicine business. She runs her business from her house and with this loan she will purchase more ingredients for her herbal remedies. She is hoping to use the profits from this business to help her children to find a better future and to continue growing her business. She thanks you all for your support.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
