Madres Unidas 1&2 Group

Gloria is a 38-year-old borrower who lives near Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She is the coordinator for the group Madres Unidas (Mothers United), and her story is representative of the other borrowers in her group.

Specifically, Gloria lives the Los Alcarrizos region of Santo Domingo. This area is one of the most difficult places to live in the entire Dominican Republic. Electricity is scarce, shelter is insufficient, and there is no access to potable water. Despite the difficulties of living in this area, Gloria successfully runs a small natural pharmacy. In addition to this business, she also sells some clothing when sales are not going well in the pharmacy.

This is Gloria’s very first loan with Esperanza International, and with a successful repayment, she hopes it will not be her last. She came to Esperanza so that her business could expand. She hopes that with the extra money, she can not only improve her business, but also save money for herself and her family.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
