Joseph Namoc is from the village of Brgy. 24, Gingoog City. He is 43 years old. Joseph is married and has two school-aged children. To make a living, Joseph runs a sari-sari (variety) retail shop. The main source of income for the business comes from selling both food and daily-use products in the local community. Joseph has been engaged in his business for over 10 years and earns approximately 5,000 Philippines pesos a month for these activities.
In 2009, Joseph joined HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve his living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Joseph has successfully repaid a previous loan of 5,000 PHP from HSPFI, a Kiva partner. This previous loan was used to purchase additional inventory and as working capital. Joseph is requesting a new loan of 11,000 PHP, which will also be used to purchase additional inventory and as working capital. This will be the third loan taken out by Joseph from HSPFI. He plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to support the education of his children, to pay bills and for land installments.
