The “Nueva Semilla” (New Seed) Communal Bank began in the city of Cuenca. This city is known for the four rivers that flow through it, its' skillful artists and its' gastronomic delights that attract both national and international tourists.

“Nueva Semilla” is made up of a group of women dedicated to training in the development of small businesses in order to improve their economic situation and the quality of their lives.

Mrs. María Beatriz Arpi Jarama is one of the active members of the communal bank “Nueva Semilla”. She lives in the city of Cuenca. She is a 32 year old, married mother of two children, 8 and 4 years old. Her oldest daughter studies at the Luisa de Jesús Cordero School. The family lives in a private apartment within her mother’s house. Her husband works in construction and does not have a large income.

For the past two years, María has a run a small bazaar and stationary store out of her mother’s house. Because she does not pay rent, she has been able to grow her business by adding in telephone booths and video sales.

She has been working with the communal bank for a year and a half. The loans that she has obtained have been clearly used to bring in the telephone booths and acquire videos to sell. With the loan from the FUNDACIÓN ESPOIR she will buy small articles to sell in her bazaar such as gifts, perfumes, tableware, ornaments, notebooks, paints, markers and the list of school supplies for her children.

Her dreams is to own her own house and also a car.

El Banco Comunal Nueva Semilla se formó en la ciudad de Cuenca, esta ciudad se caracteriza por los cuatro ríos que la bañan, los hábiles artesanos y su suculenta gastronomía atrae a turistas nacionales y extranjeros.

El Bankito Nueva Semilla está conformado por un grupo de mujeres que tienen como objetivo la superación propia y de su familia mediante la capacitación y su inserción en el desarrollo de la micro empresa para mejorar su situación económica y su calidad de vida.

La señora María Beatriz Arpi Jarama es una de las socias activas del Banco Comunal Nueva Semilla, vive en la urbe de la ciudad de Cuenca tiene 32 años de edad es casada y madre de dos niños de 8 y 4 años, su hija mayor estudia en la escuela Luisa de Jesús Cordero, viven en casa de su mamá en un departamento independiente, su esposo trabaja en la construcción por lo que no tiene muchos ingresos.

María tiene un pequeño bazar y papeleria desde hace dos años en casa de su madre y como no paga arriendo le ha permitido ir incrementado con cabinas telefónicas y con la venta de todo tipo de videos.

Ella lleva un año y medio trabajando en la banca comunal y nos manifiesta que los créditos obtenidos los ha invertido en la implementación de las cabinas telefónicas y la adquisición de videos, con el préstamo que la FUNDACIÓN ESPOIR le entregue va a invertir en la compra de artículos de bazar como regalos, perfumes, vajillas, adornos y papelería como cuadernos, pinturas, marcadores y la lista de útiles escolares para sus hijos.

Su sueño es llegar a tener su propia casa y también un auto.
