Azuma

Azuma, age forty eight, is a widow and the mother of five children who are currently in school. She is a very hard working and resourceful mother. She works to support her children’s education to provide them with a better opportunity in life in the future. Azuma prepares and sells maize porridge together with milk and doughnuts. For the past ten years, Azuma has been supporting her family with income from this business. She found it necessary to add a second business of selling dried cassava to supplement her income when her husband died. With the loan, she wants to buy ingredients like maize, milk, sugar etc. in bulk. Being able to buy in bulk is advantageous because it is a hedge against price hikes and also helps avoid frequent travels to fill demand. She hopes to use part of her profit to finance the education of her children.
