Miguel

Miguel is a 58-year-old borrower from San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic. He has five children, but the youngest is already 28 and all have moved out of his home, where he lives with his wife. This is Miguel’s first individual loan, and his seventh loan overall with Esperanza. He is excited for the responsibility of having an individual loan, and is thankful for the opportunity this loan will provide. Miguel runs a colmado in his neighborhood, which is a small corner store that can sell anything from juices to laundry detergent. Miguel sells juice, rice, beans, flour, household items, and even makes sandwiches in his colmado.

Miguel dreams to one day own his home, eventually allowing him to leave something behind for his children. With an individual loan, Miguel is now solely responsible for the outcome of his finances. He hopes that his profits will greatly increase with the ability to more easily dictate how much he borrows and how he uses it in his colmado.
