Ta Ram Group

Here are Maseray Kamara, Mariatu Fofanah and Mabinty Conteh. They named their group "Ta Ram," a Temne phrase meaning “Let us pay back”. They are small-scale businesswomen from Makeni City who want a loan of Le 500,000 each to enable them expand their businesses. This will be their very first loan from SMT/Kiva. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their businesses so that they can attract more customers, make better sales, earn more profits and improve their living standards.

Maseray Kamara (on the left in the photograph) is the leader of the group. Maseray was born in a place call Masinra in Northern Sierra Leone. She is married to a teacher and they have four children. Maseray and husband work very hard to look after their children who still attending schools. All of their children attend primary schools, except for the youngest, who is still too young for school. Maseray sells market food: rice, palm-oil (the most popular cooking oil) and much more. Maseray has been a businesswoman for more than eight years.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
