El Amor 1 And 4 Group

Valentina is the group coordinator of El Amor (The Love). Her story is representative of the others in her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients. Valentina's group is based in Hato Mayor, a rural area in the Dominican Republic that has unreliable access to resources such as potable running water and electricity. Valentina lives with her two children (ages 20 and 19) and one grandson.

Valentina has proven she is an excellent Esperanza client by repaying seven loans. She plans to use this loan, her eighth, to continue to grow her business and buy more shoes to sell. She hopes to someday have her own store where she can sell her shoes. Currently, she sells the shoes from her home.

Valentina would like to use the money she earns in her business to continue to improve the living conditions in her house. The loans she has taken with Esperanza in the past have helped her to provide for her family.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
