Hort Chanhong

Hort Chanhong, 57, is a widow with three children and works as a professional decorates handicrafts living at home in the Takeo province. Since 1990, she has been using beads and other materials to make flower on woman clothes to earn a living and is able to make US$3 each day. Decorates dress is a kind of Khmer traditional dress and people wears it during Water Festival, P’chum Ben or Khmer New Year. It takes around 7-10 days to complete each dress and its price is expensive too. Most of the people prefer hand made than machine made. She said she knows how to decorate from her mother and she has started doing this business since she was not married yet. One of her children is a construction worker and two are professional decorates handicrafts as her. Hort Chanhong would like a loan of US$1200 to purchase a motorbike for her son who works as a worker to commute to work.
