Lilian John

Mambo from Tanzania! This is 21-year-old Lilian John from Mbeya. She is single. Lilian has been running a used clothes business since 2007. Her business is selling second-hand clothes. This clothing journeys across the oceans from America and Europe, and is then washed, ironed and sold in bulk by wholesalers in Tanzania to retailers who then re-wash and re-iron the clothes for sale on the streets and in the surrounding towns and villages. These clothes are becoming increasingly popular, especially amongst the younger generation, because of their low cost, and the general appeal of anything modern.

Lilian works at the business for 9-12 hours per day, 6 days per week. Lilian currently earns about 250 USD from her business. She is requesting a loan in order to purchase more used clothes in bulk for her business. In the future, she plans to improve the quality and range of her products.
