Grace Group

“Grace” is a group of five borrowers led by Fatu Thomas, a 33-year-old married woman. Fatu has three children aged 9 to 14 years old and their educational levels are 2nd through 7th grade.

Fatu is illiterate because she is a victim of the belief that only men should be educated and women should be taken care of by their husbands. She lives in New Kru Town, a crowded and poor community north of the Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, that is full of crime. She works in the Dualla Market, a big market where farmers brings their goods from out of town to sell.

Fatu's business is selling used clothing. She buys used clothing wholesale and sells it in the Dualla Market. She has been running this business for ten years and hopes to own a boutique in the future. Fatu sells quality products so that customers can be encouraged to always come back and buy more from her.

Fatu needs this loan in order to purchase more goods. She dreams of building a house for herself and her family and to totally change her family’s life.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
