Ma. Teresa Tinawin is now 37 years old and married to a driver Samson Tinawin 44 years old. At the long years of their marriage they were given 2 children namely: Khristel Sam now in 2nd year high school and Chivae Rain now 1 year old. Ma. Teresa and her husband is a partner in taking care of their two children and giving them their needs through their growing.

Now as a source of their income her husband is driving a tricycle which is one of main means of transportation in their place. A tricycle is like a cab which has 3 wheels and can ride a maximum of 6 passengers. Although this business is not their main source of income it also contributes revenue for their expense. Also her husband manage their fish cage business, this business give them more income that’s why they focuses on it. As a matter of fact she will use the loan that she received from KIVA field partner Ahon sa Hirap Inc. (ASHI) as additional capital to her fish cage business. They will buy necessary things needed in her business like fish net, mini boat, bamboo and different kind of rope and also payment for the laborer. Ma. Teresa also run a variety store that also gives them additional income that they can use in times they needed it. ASHI approved the proposed loan of Ma. Teresa amounting Php 45,000 because she has a good credit rating. She always attend to a center meeting, always pay on time and her 3 businesses are running good.

One dreams of Ma. Teresa is to see her children finish their studies and living a descent and good life, not experiencing the hardness of life.

Loan Utilization Check (LUC) Report

Entrepreneur: Ma. Teresa Tinawin
Location: Morong, Rizal, Philippines

In September 23, 2009 Ma. Teresa Tinawin received her loan through Kiva field partner Ahon sa Hirap Inc. (ASHI) amounting Php 45,000 less the 5% Salamat (means Thank You) Fund. This fund will become group fund that the owner is the members of the group that in case they need it they can use it.

At the time of visit in the place of Ma. Teresa for loan utilization check, the staff found out that she is one of the family that suffer in the previous typhoon that encountered by most places in the Philippines the typhoon name “Ondoy”. Their family is one of the thousands families who flooded their houses, lost most of the appliances that they’ll invest for a long time, and most of all lost their means of living. The hard part for Ma. Teresa is they’ve lost also her fish cage business. This is where she spent the entire amount that she received as her loan. Before the typhoon “Ondoy”, they already build up their fish cage and they already buy the things that are needed in her business. That is the thing that she was cry for. Ma. Teresa at the time of visit was really emotional she shared that until now she remembered the fear that she was feeling the time of typhoon visiting the area of Philippines especially their place in Morong Rizal.

But the thing she was thankful is that even if that happen to them no one died in their family, not in the situation of having illness and they have left some business for their everyday living. Their tricycle and their variety store, she will start again with it. And she assures ASHI and of course herself that what happen to them will never become the hindrance in fulfilling their dreams to rise above all forms of poverty.
