Chansokha Sam’s Group

Mr. Chansokha Sam (shown in the picture his group member) was selected to be a group leader for a loan from Maxima. In the group are two families including him. All the group's members live on an island in Mekong River approximately 15 kilometers from Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia.

1-Mr. Chansokha Sam, 29, and his wife, Mrs. Sreylot Kong, 28, were married in 2003 and just a 2 year-old son. He has been a silk weaver for over 10 years, a skill he learned from his aunt, while his wife is a garment factory worker. In the past, she used to be a silk weaver as well.

By the way, the house where he lives breaks down in some parts he wants to repair it, but he doesn’t have money. So, he is requesting a loan of $250 to make the repairs.

2-Mrs. Sokhen Kong, 30, and her husband, Mr. Thol Pho, 33, were married in 2001 and just a young daughter-who attends school. Sokhen has been a silk weaver since she was 15 years old and taught her husband to become a silk weaver as well.

She is requesting a loan of $200 to purchase silk materials for continuing her weaving business.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
