Maylen Tamiat is from the village of Lobogon. She is 27 years old, married and has three school-aged children. To make a living, Maylen owns and operates a fish-vending business. The main source of income for the business comes from harvesting and selling ocean-caught fish in the local community. Maylen has been engaged in her business for over four years and earns approximately 8,000 PHP a month from these activities.

In 2005, Maylen joined Kiva partner PMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Maylen has successfully repaid a previous loan from PMPC. She is requesting a new loan of 50,000 PHP, which will be used to make improvements to her house. This loan will be her ninth from PMPC. She plans to use the revenue generated from her business to improve her family's general living conditions and make further improvements to her house.

About PMPC

Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) is one of the most progressive cooperatives in northwestern Mindanao. It reaches out to the rural poor using the Grameen model.
