Maritza is the group coordinator of the Banco de Esperanza (Bank of Hope) Mujeres Poderosas (Powerful Women). Her story is representative of both her group and of Esperanza's Haitian (many of whom have recently immigrated to the Dominican Republic) and Dominican clients. The group is based in Puerto Plata, a small rural zone that has basic, but unreliable, electricity and running water.
Maritza lives with her husband and has three sons. She is a professional cosmetologist and runs a beauty salon. She will use this loan to purchase additional beauty supplies and cosmetics. She hopes to one day have a better salon that is bigger.
