Leah Baoy, 30, is a successful micro-entrepreneur. She lives in and does business in BASECO Compound, Port Area, Manila – a shantytown on the coast of the metropolis. Her husband, Renato, 35, works as a security personnel. They have two school-aged kids.

Leah owns a general store located at the heart of a flea market in the community where she sells charcoal and coconuts. When customers buy coconuts, her store offers customers a value-added service: to grate their coconut for a minimal fee. She has a mechanical grater that does the job fast and efficiently. Leah earns more than P45,000 a month. She saves her profits. She feels a sense of economic security every time she looks at the growing figures in her savings passbook.

Leah has been hearing a lot of good things about the Center for Community Transformation (CCT) Credit Cooperative but became a member only last year. She is about to finish repaying her previous loan with the cooperative. She applied for a new loan in the amount of P24,000 as additional capital for the continuity of her business. She is now on her 6th loan.

Leah dreams of having a bakery and a grocery store. She also wishes to have a large house with a swimming pool beside it.

About CCT
The Center for Community Transformation (CCT) is an organized Christian response against poverty and social injustice. This is carried out through the fusion of social development initiatives and evangelical mission in a uniquely Filipino context. It serves urban and rural poor communities throughout the Philippines, in pursuit of its desire to see changed lives, strong families, and transformed communities centered in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

CCT is a member of the Five Talents family.
