Gelien Dumolu-an is from the village of Tumpagon, Cagayan de Oro City. She is 19 years old and married. To make a living, Gelien owns and operates a specialized retail store. The main source of income for the business comes from selling seafood products, including fish and shrimp, in the local community. Gelien has been engaged in her business for over a year and earns approximately 3,000 PHP a month from these activities.
In 2009, Gelien joined Kiva partner HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Gelien has successfully repaid a previous loan of 5,000 PHP from HSPFI. This loan was used to purchase new items to expand her product offering. Gelien is requesting a new loan of 8,000 PHP, which will also be used to purchase new items to expand her product offering. This loan will be her second from HSPFI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated to improve and expand her business.
