Communal Bank Nueva Esperanza is formed by a group of very united members willing to overcome any life adversities. Solidarity is strong between the members and they always have a positive mentality. They shine joy in their bi-weekly meetings where they share their day-to-day lives. They live in different areas of the city of Cuenca.

Mrs. Alicia Dolores Zuñiga lives in the Mutualista Azuay area about 30 minutes outside the city of Cuenca. She is 48 years old, happily married, and with a good marriage relationship. She has four children ages, 27, 26, 25, and 14. Her first 3 daughters are professionals in Accounting and Audits. They help her financially at home. Her youngest son attends Antonio Avila school. Her husband is a Sales Executive. Together, they have built their own home which is the fruit of many years of effort.

Alicia has had a bazaar for 25 years. In addition, she has a store where she has sold provisions for 5 years. She tells us that sales have dropped because she moved and lost her clients. She works from 7am to 9pm. She tells us that owning her store is very beneficial because she doesn't know what is like to purchase things by pounds and if she needs something, she gets it from her store.

This is her third cycle working with the bank. She feels satisfied because the loans have helped her improve her business and with the loan FUNDACION ESPOIR grants her, she will invest buying additional provisions for her store and more merchandise for her bazaar such as school supplies, home supplies, toys, etc.

Alicia's dream is that her businesses continue to improve because they are what sustain the family.
