Kamuyusu Group

This is Issa Thullah, Abu Bakarr Bah, Abdulai Fofanah, Abu Kamara and Kaday Yateh. They are small scale businesspeople in Magburaka town, in northern Sierra Leone. They call their group Kamuyusu, a Temne phrase meaning “Be Patient with us”. This is the first loan they are getting from SMT/Kiva. They are requesting a loan of Le 500,000 for each. With this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more profit, and improve their standard of living.

Issa Thullah (left) is the leader of this group. Issa was born in Mayolo village, an outskirt of Magburaka town. He is thirty-five years of age, married to a businesswoman and they have two children – one in class three and the other in class two. Issa sells sneakers, tooth brush, tooth pastes, and medicines. Issa has been a businessman for over fifteen years now. He will invest this loan into his business by buying more of the goods he sells.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
