Radjab Djobirov

Radjab has a successful business selling foodstuffs at a market in Rudaki, Tajikistan. He started his business about 13 years ago, after evaluating different business possibilities and deciding this would be the best option and something he would enjoy. Radjab purchases produce at very low prices and then resells at a profit. Because he sells in bulk, he deals with a high inventory turnover rate. Radjab rents a very good location at the market for his business, and he has little competition. He has requested a loan of $800 US to increase his business capital. This loan will give him the ability to purchase more produce to sell, enabling him to increase his profits and continue operating a profitable business.

Tajikistan is perhaps best known for its epic mountain passes and its rich history which includes its place as a key post along the Silk Road and events at the end of Alexander the Great's rule. These conditions have resulted in high levels of unemployment and have forced hundreds of thousands to seek work in other countries, mainly Russia. While the people of Tajikistan are working to improve its agricultural productivity and the manufacturing sector, nearly two-thirds of the population still live in abject poverty.
