Anderias Banu is a 48-year-old man. He grew up in Naiotel Village Taebenu Sub District – Kupang District of East Nusa Tenggara Province. The community in Naiotel Village leans on agricultural and husbandry, but in the dry season, the community usually digs manganese to be sold so they are able to meet family needs. 40 families live in the village.

Naiotel is a remote village; there are no health and electricity facilities. Most community members only have low level education. The children, on average, only graduate from elementary school as there is no high school facility available in this area. They have to walk for about 4 km to reach the school in a neighboring village. Some of children choose to help their parents on the farm.

Anderias leads a group of seven people - Tnaomat A1. Anderias is married and has been blessed with three children; they are:
- Yanto, working in Malaysia for 2 years;
- Santy, studying in University in Kupang City;
- Soleman in the fourth grade of dlementary school.
Anderias has principles and good thoughts, especially regarding education. He is responsible tfor his children's education; for Anderias, education is a priority for the future of his children. Anderias hopes the children will be successful and have a better future than his. Even though he realizes the income that he generates from farming is small, he is keen and always works hard in order to fulfill his family's needs and his children's education

Anderias plants coconut on the farm so in the dry season, Anderias is assisted by his wife in producing coconut oil to be sold in Oeba Market – Kupang City. It is situated about 30 km from the village. Anderias also digs manganese to be sold every day. The price is IDR 1,100/kg.

From these businesses' income, Anderias is able support his family, meeting their daily needs. Currently, Anderias finances his daughter's education at the university. He can not only depend on agricultural produce and coconut oil to pay his daughter's education fees. The difficulty that he faces encouraged him to think of another option to finance his daughter's education. Fattening cattle is the main option for him as he saw his neighbors have been successful in running that business. To fatten cattle, Anderias needs capital to buy calves. As a poor farmer, Anderias would be happy if he can buy calves to be fattened.

He heard information that TLM – Kiva can assist poor farmers like him by providing a loan to buy calves to be fattened over a 12 month period. So Anderias, with other community members, decided to form Tnaomat A1 Group. Anderias hopes through the Cattle Fattening Program he will be able to finance his daughter's education and improve his family's living standards. Anderias is requesting a loan amounting to IDR 3,300,000 to buy calves to be fattened. The other group members are also requesting a loan as they want to have a better life in the future.

Up date on Tnaomat A1 Group

Entrepreneur: Tnaomat A1 Group
Location: Naiotel, Indonesia

Dear Kiva Lenders,

On the 2nd of November 2009, our Kiva field officer went to Naiotel Village, Taebenu Sub District – Kupang District to get an up date on Tnaomat A1 Group. Naiotel Village is situated about 30 km from Kupang the Capital City of East Nusa Tenggara Province. The field officer should ride his motorbike for about three hours to reach the village as he had to pass a poor quality road to enter the village.

After took a long trip, the field officer then arrived at Anderias’ house. Anderias and family live in a modest house. It is constructed by palm branches walls with rusted zinc roofs and dirt floor. Even though Naiotel is categorized as remote village but Anderias and family love to live in the village. Anderias is very happy to welcome the field officer in his house. This was shown by his smile and his hospitality in welcoming the field officer.

Anderias was just returned from the farm to feed his cattle when the field officer arrived at his house. He was wearing the orange shirt that he wore when the group picture was taken. Anderias was preparing his equipment to dig manganese while talking to the field officer. Besides working as a farmer, Anderias also spends some of his time to dig manganese in order to generate more income.

The loan amounting to IDR 3,300,000 has been disbursed to Anderias. He spent the loan to buy young cattle to fatten in twelve months. He said that he is very excited with the loan. He is so grateful for the concern of the lenders to poor farmer in West Timor through Kiva – TLM so that he is able to have his own cattle.

He always takes care of his cattle by providing food and water. It is aimed to gain optimum cattle weight so he can sell the cattle at a reasonable price in the future. During his membership in Cattle Fattening Program, Anderias never faced difficulty in fattening the cattle. The cattle are growing up well and health. Anderias said that he likes to join TLM’s Cattle Fattening Program better than other’s institutions as he only needs 12 months to fatten the cattle, whereas the other institutions require their members to fatten the cattle for more than 12 months.

Anderias usually starts to work in the farm at 07.00 am up to 11 am then together with the other community members he spends some times to dig manganese to be sold. At 04.00pm he goes back to the farm in order to provide food and water for the cattle then he returns home. He works hard to meet his family’s needs especially to support his children education. He believes that the loan will bring positive impact for him and the other group members.

Thank you for supporting Tnaomat A1 Group
