Malap Group

This is Adama Kamara, Sallay Kargbo, Fatmata Kalokoh, Rugiatu Kanu and Sallay Kabba . They named their group Malap. These entrepreneurs have gained access to several loans from SMT/Kiva. Previous loans have had meaningful impacts into the lives of these entrepreneurs. The last loan they received from Kiva through SMT was for Le 1,000,000.00 each. Having successfully repaid that loan, they are now requesting a new loan of Le 1,200,000.00 for each to enable them further strengthen their businesses.

Adama Kamara (in the middle) is the leader of this group. Adama is thirty-three years of age. She was born in a village called M’Boleh, about four miles from Makeni City, in northern Sierra Leone. She is married to a carpenter and they have six children who are attending schools. Adama sells market food -- rice, palm-oil (the most popular cooking oil), vegetable oil. She also sells cigarettes, soft and hard drinks and clothes. With this loan, she will expand her business by buying more items to add to her current stock of goods. Adama has been in this business for more than twelve years now.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
